Information About The Job:

Background: Established July 1, 2008, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security provides leadership for the State's homeland security initiatives, coordinates homeland security efforts of state agencies and local governments, and administers federal Homeland Security grants. The Office mission encompasses threats related to terrorist activities and natural disasters.

Position/Duties: The position will manage grant activities, including overseeing financial and operational grant activities, managing awards, reviewing required reports and reimbursements, providing technical assistance to grantees, monitoring grant awards, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. This position is a non-classified at-will employee. At-will means that either the employee or the Office of Homeland Security may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason with or without notice or cause, as long as in doing so there is no violation of federal or state law.

Preferred education and experience: Preferred qualifications include a relevant advanced degree or certification; a thorough understanding and familiarity of the Homeland Security Grant Program; two years grants administration and monitoring experience; familiarity with state accounting processes and systems; knowledge of federal grant reporting requirements; and proficiency in Excel, Word, and Access. Successful candidates must be willing to travel occasionally. In addition, candidates applying:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License;

  • Must have no felony convictions or domestic violence history; and

  • Must pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigations and a Federal Bureau of Investigations background check and a drug screen as a condition of employment. Included in the background check is a current and/or previous employer check.
